Bride

Susan and Val met through a fluke of programming on the internet. We were both in our late fifties. (Yes, there is love and romance after 50.)

Val was living in North Carolina, and working as a Professor at Western Carolina University. Susan was in her second year of school at the Tai Sophia Institute in MD. We both put our profiles on internet sites, hoping to meet people. Val had put in her requirements that she wanted to hear from people within 200 miles; Sue's was 50 miles. They sent Val Sue's profile. She liked that Sue was an acupuncturist and a witch. Sue was impressed with Val's medals from the Senior Olympics, and thought she was very attractive. We were 600 miles apart.

We started emailing a lot, had much in common, but decided we would be friends due to the distance. We began talking on the phone often. Sue started dating a woman from PA. That was not going very well, and in April, Sue called Val for advice. Val realized she didn't want Sue to be with that other woman. She said she wanted us to meet. Val had a list she made with her therapist of 25 things she wanted in a partner. Sue had 24 of them.

We made plans for Val to come up the first weekend in May. Sue told her that if we hit it off, that was fine; otherwise there was room (not much) on the living room floor. Sue was at a retreat with the school class, so Val came to pick her up near Charlottesville. We pretty much fell into each other's arms. Val brought chocolate turtles from the Chocolate Factory. She couldn't resist them, and ate two on her way up the road. :-) They were wonderful. She has good taste.

Groom

We flew back and forth every few weeks. Finally Val retired from her job, and moved up to Baltimore while Sue finished school. It was hard for Val to live in a condo complex. She looked out the bedroom windows and pretended it was a farm with a barn up the hill. After graduation we moved back to the country - Sylva.

It's been a busy nine years, dealing with Katrina problems, house repairs, getting our two rescue dogs, Zen and Zena, starting a business, visiting families, the births of three grandchildren, and dealing with Sue's illness.
